Historical Moments Reflection- D'Alessio

People who are old enough to remember the Depression (less than 1% of population) or WWII, the Korean War, the Cold War/Cuban Misile Crisis/the fall of the Berlin Wall, Vietnam, the Gulf War (1991), and 9/11, have a historical moment story to tell. You too will someday be telling children and/or grandchildren about the Cornoa Covid-19 Virus (the biggest pandemic of the 21st century). How you lived through it and how life in Canada compared to other countries that were worse off at the time, such as China, Italy, France, India, and the USA (especially hot spots like New York City). And which countries if any, were better off than Canada and why. For example, South Korea seems to be doing much better than we are. And then, there are nations like Sweden and Denmark who are betting on what is called "herd immunity" and taking LESS measures than Canada. History will eventually show which nations made wise choices and which did not. But regardless of the approach, there are "hot spots" and that includes New York City. Historical moments are unmistakable. Anyone who is age 6 or older, will never forget this monent that we are going through. I remember September 11th, 2001. I was teaching a gr.7/8 class. One student came in late. He said something about World War III happening. I recall thinking that he was talking about a pro wreslting pay-per-view. A few minutes later, the principal came to the door asking to speak to me. She told me in the hall that America was under attack and that the World Trade Centre and in New York and the Pentegon and White House in Washington had been taken out. It turns out, she was wrong about the White House. It was not harmed. And the Pentegon suffered only minor damage. Historical moments involve sifting through runours and fake news to understand what really happened. For example, trying to determine the current death toll of Covid-19 in China is almost impossible. It is probbaly not what the Chinese government claims and it is probbaly not 1 million which the hearsay says but rather somewhere in-between. One thing is for sure, you will get through this, just as Canadians did during the Great Depression of the 1930's... and the Spanish Flu (which by the way, did NOT originate in Spain. Spain was a neutral country that was chosen to take the ground zero title whereas in reality historical evidence suggests that it started in China but we will never know for sure).
