The most controversial aspect of the bill would bar public sector employees from wearing any identifiable Religious clothing or jewellery (hijabs, kipas, turbans, crosses, etc.). The Quebec Assembly of Catholic Bishops has …

Agree or Disagree (political corruption)
Posted by Rob D'Alessio on 8/10/2012 2:49:12 PM"The ineptitude and gang-like mentalities of politicians in North America have allowed corporations, businesses, and politically-motivated wealthy individuals to manipulate elections, and silence the average voter." Do you agree or disagree? -
OPEN LINE OPEN TOPIC
Posted by Rob D'Alessio on 7/10/2012 4:01:00 PMAnyting you want to talk about that relates to what we have debated (or class content or links etc). This "chat" is currently open to ENG3U, ENG4C, IDC4O, HZT4U, CPW4U, ENG1D, and CLU3M (eg. Interpret the quote: "Some laws are better than others.") (Eg." I just saw the Hunger Games. Like the book it is based on, it is a philosophical and political film and it is a dystopia film. Here, you can share your thoughts, keeping in mind that the film has drawn varying interpretations for its political overtones, including arguments in favor of left-wing, right-wing, and libertarian viewpoints. The film displays a general distrust of government, regardless of the audience's political party affiliation. Some viewers formed an opinion about The Hunger Games as a parable of the Occupy Wall Street activity. The top 1% richest people in the world have more money than the bottom 95% put together! Collins doesn't use the terms 1% and 99% percent, but it's clear that those in the Capitol are members of the 1% and everyone in the Panem districts is part of the 99..." -

freedom of speech
Posted by Rob D'Alessio on 5/9/2012 9:31:56 AMIn the USA, the Supreme court has protected the rights of anti-gay protesters who continue to attend the funerals of US soldiers who were gay where they chant "God hates fags" and hold signs that read: "God hates fags" "God hates America" and God if your enemey." Do you agree with their right to freedom of expression? Explain. Do you agree with the statement "The Supreme Court is noble." Or do you agree with the sentence, "The Supreme Court is noble in theory." What are your general philosophies on "freedom of speech, expression, and slander (Katie Homes for example recently launched a lawsuit against the tabloids for saying that she was addicted to drugs. She will most likely lose the lawsuit). -

Jim Richards Showgram discussion
Posted by Rob D'Alessio on 4/26/2012 12:26:30 PM*************** Is it fair to to cancel refugee claimants' access to our healthcare?*******************Corey Michaels writes: "It's not cancelling their access, it's adjusting the level of benefits to match those ofprovincial health care plans such as OHIP. This is equal treatment. It's as fair as you can get."Sean Williams writes: "No. Let them pay taxes first - like everyone else!"Craig Milton writes: "...It's such a pile of baloney that a person who's never spent a dime here, never spent an hourhere, never worked a day here, never contributed anything EVER to here, can come here and get free health care tostart off with... It's a slap in the face to all Canadians who've worked their butts off and contributed to makethis heath care system the mess it is today -- Health care in Canada is NOT free, it costs me an arm and a leg and it'sjust not right that an outsider can jump over here and start pillaging our resources -- and there's NO ONE who's goingto convince me they don't, I've been witness to it directly and it's a burden on US."Charlie Currie writes: "No. Once they have pre-paid their share of the national debt...by all means dive in and donatea couple organs along the way." -
