The student will explore the language, techniques and traditions of drawing. The unit emphasizes the development of a personal language which communicates the perceptual and conceptual possibilities of academic drawing. Life drawing, still life, landscape (including the built environment) are included in the unit. The unit will focus primarily on various approaches to drawing the body from a number of aspects, including anatomy, the interior/exterior of the body and the impact of technological innovations on how the body is imagined. Various philosophical approaches to the body are considered in the light of each of these approaches. Practical workshops using the model are augmented by lectures establishing a history and current context.
